After New Balance discontinued the 910 v4, they needed a new workhorse trail runner to fill its shoes. Enter the Summit K.O.M./Q.O.M., which stands for King of the Mountain/Queen of the Mountain. The K.O.M./Q.O.M. offers the same reliable protection as the 910 but has improved traction to ensure you reign over mountainous terrain.
Using a nearly identical midsole to the 910, the K.O.M./Q.O.M. features a lightweight RevLite midsole with a flexible Rock Stop positioned between the midsole and outsole to protect your feet from sharp rocks. The RevLite/Rock Stop combo should provide a responsive underfoot feel with plenty of protection for any distance or terrain.
A huge upgrade from the 910 is the addition of a Vibram Megagrip outsole with more aggressive lugs, which should provide even better traction. Vibram Megagrip outsoles are becoming more popular because of their durability and excellent performance on both wet and dry surfaces.
While the upper is very similar to the 910, it should be a little stretchier and breathable in the forefoot. Additionally, Toe Protect, the technology designed to protect you from stubbing your toes on rocks and roots, is now seamless so that you can run carefree mile after mile.
