Hoka One One continues to bring out new shoe models and broaden the scope of the brand. The Speed Instinct takes the go-fast midsole concept of the forthcoming Tracer and adapts it for trail use. It has a minimal mesh upper to keep weight down. However, a protective toe bumper and welded overlays create a structure for tear-resistant durability and increased foot hold. The outsole is made of Hi-Abrasion rubber and multi-directional lugs, which provide grip on loose terrain and hard natural surfaces.
The midsole consists of two densities, a softer heel and firmer forefoot. The firmer forefoot is great for providing a responsive feel, and is especially ideal for uphill running. The advantage of the softer heel is the ability of the shoe to deform as ground contact is made on top of protruding surfaces.
