Delivering the highest level of support of any HOKA ONE ONE shoe to date, the Gaviota provides runners with an extremely high level of pronation control and cushioning without all the excess weight associated with the “motion control” category. With a support level comparable to the Brooks Addiction and a weight almost 3 oz lighter, the Gaviota offers severe overpronators with a unique experience that shakes off the constrictions of traditional support shoes.
In the past, HOKA has mainly focused on neutral shoes with inherent stability, but now with the introduction of the Gaviota and Arahi (check out the first look here), HOKA has began to implement its high cushioning to low weight ratio into a true support running shoe design. While both shoes utilize a J-Frame design for added support, the Gaviota will offer the most pronation control within the support line. Utilizing an R-Mat J-Frame instead of EVA, the Gaviota will be slightly stiffer and more supportive then the Arahi, but will still be far less rigid then any other comparable shoes on the market. The Gaviota also features a late stage Meta-Rocker design and flat waisted geometry to provide an even more stable base, as well as added forefoot support.
In order to fit a variety of foot shapes, the Gaviota utilizes the same last seen in the new Clifton 3. Paired with a 3d Puff Print Frame as well as Arch lock wings, this shoe offers an extremely structured midfoot wrap, while keeping weight at a minimum.
