When we recently reported the return of the Asics Gel Hyper Speed, a lingering question was the fate of the classic racing flat’s supposed successor, the Gel NoosaFast. Well, the triathlon-inspired racer is here to stay, and will be available alongside the Hyper Speed in Asics’ domination of the 10k to half marathon racing shoe market.
This favorite of Kiwi-turned-American triathlete Matty Reed will see minimal changes in its first update, so expect a fit and feel very similar to the original version. Weights will be close to the first NoosaFast; we measured version 2 to tip the scales at 6.2 oz for a Men’s size 9 and 5.4 oz for a Women’s 7 (compared to 6.6 oz and 5.9 oz, respectively, for the current model).
What to Watch For
- Lowered Heel Tab: The NoosaFast 2 will feature a lowered heel tab, reducing rubbing and irritation on the Achilles tendon.
- Fewer Overlays: The printed overlays will be limited to around the rear of the foot for a more flexible forefoot fit while maintaining security around the heel.
- Carryover Platform: The midsole and outsole go unchanged in this update, drainage holes included.
