Asics 33 Version 2 Sneak Peeks

August 22nd, 2012

The first generation of Asics 33 shoes has extended the brand, finding a following of runners seeking performance-oriented trainers with some style. The second generation of the Gel-Blur33, the shoe that launched the collection, has already been released. Following hot on its heels are updates to several other 33 models, set to arrive for the Spring ’13 season.

The neutral cushioning trainer of the 33 lineup is back with a full redesign of the upper and mid/outsole. A new flex groove pattern is designed to give you more flexibility from heel to toe, and the forefoot gel unit has been removed to reduce weight. Asics claims weights of 9.8 oz (Men’s size 9) and 7.9 oz (Women’s Size 8).

This update to the minimum-support trainer in the 33 collection sports a new upper featuring Asics’ Mono-Sock construction to offer you a (you guessed it) sock-like fit. The platform is carried over from the first generation Gel-Neo33, so you can expect the same smooth and responsive ride. Asics reports weights of 10.2 oz (Men’s size 9) and 8.5 oz (Women’s size 8).

Utilizing what it learned from the first generation Gel-Lyte33, Asics designed the Gel-Lyte33 2 for better alignment and movement with the joints in the foot, resulting in increased flexibility from heel to toe. Asics has published weights of 8.5 oz (Men’s size 9) and 7.0 oz (Women’s size 8).

Asics Gel Lyte33 Sneak Peek

February 8th, 2012
Asics Gel Lyte33 Women's Running Shoes

Asics Gel Lyte33 Women's Running Shoes

Lightweight? Check. Flexible? Check. Streamlined upper? Check. A spiritual successor to the Gel Lyte series from the late 80s and early 90s, the Gel Lyte33 is the lightest shoe in the Asics33 collection and one of the company’s lightest shoes period.

While many of us here in the office and many of you out there in Runnerland have lamented the passing of the Sky Speed series, fans of the Sky Speed should give the Gel Lyte33 a hard look. It’s a lightweight trainer that comes in several ounces lighter than the Sky Speed, and we expect it to become a popular choice for speedwork and racing.

At its June 2012 launch, the Gel Lyte33 will be available in the three Men’s colors shown below, along with a Black/White model. Women’s colors on initial launch include the Yellow/Pink shown above and Black/White/Blue. MSRP on this model is $100.00.

What to Watch For

  • Uber Flexible: The picture says more than we can say in words. The Solyte mid/outsole is ready and willing to work with your foot.
  • Light Weight: Asics claims weights of 8.6 oz (Men’s 9) and 6.8 oz (Women’s 8). We measured three Men’s samples and they averaged 8.0 oz. Still, the shoe’s not quite as featherweight as the Brooks PureConnect or Saucony Kinvara, which are both close to an ounce lighter.
  • Lower Offset: According to Asics, this shoe was built on a platform with a 6mm heel-to-toe drop in order to reduce weight, not to encourage a midfoot strike. Still, the lower offset is welcome news for runners who are fans of the Saucony Kinvara, Brooks PureProject shoes and other elemental shoe models.
  • F.A.S.T. Technology: This too-cute-by-half acronym stands for Featherweight Asics Speed Technology. The Gel Lyte33 combines several technologies including the removal of the heel counter and the aforementioned lower offset.

It’s Sneak Peek Season

December 22nd, 2011

Today may be the first day of winter on the calendar, but it’s already Fall 2012 at Running Warehouse. Well, kinda. Now’s the season for manufacturers to stop by with their Fall 2012 shoe and apparel introductions, so keep an eye out in the coming weeks for plenty of new product sneak peaks from us, including the Saucony Kinvara 3 and Kinvara TR, the expanded Nike Free line, and the Asics Gel Lyte33 and Gel Blur33 2.0.

But before we get to the Fall 2012 introductions, we have a few more Spring 2012 shoes to roll out. We’ll be kicking things off with a first look at the New Balance MT110 and WT110, a much-anticipated update to the very popular MT101/WT101 trail runner. We’re expecting big buzz in the month ahead as the design and feature updates to this trail shoe get more “traction” (sorry, we couldn’t resist).

We’re celebrating this shortest day of the year by kicking off a long string of product intros and launches in the weeks ahead. Stay tuned!
