Race of the Month: St. Patrick’s Day Parade Run in St. Louis
Double up on your saints this month when you run on St. Patrick’s Day in St. Louis, Missouri. One of the largest St. Patty’s Day runs in the country, this one in the Gateway to the West has drawn more than 13,000 runners every year over the past few years.
The course is an easy peasy flat 5 miler covering a good chunk of the downtown St. Louis area. It starts out at 9:00 am by Busch Stadium (a perfect place to pop a tab and start your St. Pat’s off right) and continues past such landmarks as City Hall, the Scottrade Center (Go Blues!) and the Public Library before finishing at the Gateway Mall.
It being St. Pat’s and all, after the race Michelob is giving out samples of some new beer in the ‘Irish Village’ at the end of the course. We imagine that there will be plenty of other places to get your drink on and celebrate the rest of the day. Plus, you can stick around with about 250,000 other spectators to watch the 2012 St. Patrick’s Day Parade that starts at 11:30 am.
It’s forecasted to be a temperate 50 degrees at the start of the race, with the possibility of a few showers. Not too shabby for winter in this part of the country. If you’re going, make sure you’ve got your green on!
