Running Playlist: The Ultimate Running Songs

2 Comments on Running Playlist: The Ultimate Running Songs

Typically, a “running playlist” is a collection of favorite jams that are good to run to. Songs that motivate you to pick up the pace. Tunes that keep you pushing even when you’re feeling ready to quit. Pop, rock, electronica… there are so many flavors.

This running playlist, however, is literally about running. (Ok, a few may be a little more loosely tied to running than others, but I’ve offered up my interpretations as food for thought.) These are songs that speak to your running spirit, and through the lyrics, you will find lines of encouragement about some of the obstacles you may face on you run. Check it.

A great song to play as you stretch, warm up, and start your run. Sometimes, I need something especially energetic to even get me moving. Any awesome run starts with simply moving your feet in the right direction.

“Everybody, move your feet and feel united, oh oh oh…”

Talk about a runner’s high. Some serious imagery here! When you’re feeling unstoppable, you’re having a ball, and you feel like you’re simply flying.

“I’m a shooting star leaping through the sky like a tiger defying the laws of gravity… I’m traveling at the speed of light… Don’t stop me now, I’m having such a good time…”

You’ve got a good start, but you’ve still got most of your run ahead of you. Time to plan ahead and go the distance. Keep a good pace, don’t burn yourself out! Or you might find “bowel-shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse”. Enough said.

“Because he’s racing and pacing and plotting the course…”

Take a break to hydrate and refuel, my friend! No one should run on empty.

“Running on – running on empty.
Running on – running blind.
Running on – running into the sun.”

You know the hills are calling your name. Embrace the pursuit of that uphill run, you know it works those glutes like no other. Run with passion – run like your life depends on it!

“Run to the hills, run for your lives.”

Yup, we’ve all been there. It feels like you’ve hit the wall, and sometimes you just need to envision the great rest you will have when you’re run is over. Have courage, take heart, carry on!

“There’ll be peace when you are done.”

Wall? What wall? You’re second wind is here and you can’t remember ever feeling better than you do right now. You feel invincible. You could run forever.

“All fired up, I’m gonna go till I drop. You’re either in or in the way. Don’t make me, I don’t wanna stop.”

When the going gets tough, remember why you run. Personal heroes, family members, loved ones.

“So run fast for your mother and fast for you father, run for your children, for your sisters and brothers.”

Okay, this whole song is awesomely perfect for running. Honestly, it probably takes the cake for the best running song about running of all time. If you’re training for a marathon, I could have possibly just found your theme song.

“It’s a test of ultimate will, the heartbreak climb uphill. Got to pick up the pace, if you want to stay in the race. More than just blind ambition, more than just simple greed, more than just a finish line…”
