Finish Line Friday: Determination

Our goal is to help inspire you to keep going, train harder, dig a little deeper and cross the finish line. For this week’s FLF, Connor will be sharing his personal sources of inspiration.

Current Position: Digital Content Specialist within the Web Content Department.

Favorite Part of the Job: Learning about and testing all the newest shoes and gear before they hit the market. I really enjoy racing flats and track spikes, and I’m always excited to see innovative products designed to make athletes run faster. I also enjoy working alongside good friends and being involved in a community that loves running as much as I do.

Running Background:
I’ve been running competitively since high school and continued to run throughout college at Cal Poly SLO. Over the years I’ve dealt with several injuries and setbacks but I’m finally starting to train and compete at a high level. I’m currently training with the local running club here in San Luis Obispo — the Asics Aggies.

What inspires you?
I’ve found myself most inspired by the runners out there who never give up on their dreams and keep pushing through regardless of setbacks. I definitely look up to pro runners like Andrew Wheating and Will Leer, who have shown so much determination over the years and continue to grind it out and race at a high level. On a daily basis, I get inspiration from my coaches Mando Siqueiros and Carlos Carballo. Both have taught me so much and have always supported me and my running goals.

What are you training for right now?
I’m currently training for the upcoming fall XC season. I plan to continue racing XC and track, and eventually transition to the marathon within the next 2-3 years.

What do you refuel with post workout?
I tend to eat a lot of food on a daily basis, and I especially eat a lot on workout day. My go to meal would be hitting up Olive Garden (OG) for an all-you-can-eat post workout meal of carbs and protein.

Thanks, Connor!
