The North Face Spring ’13 Sneak Peek
As we mentioned in our sneak-sneak peek last month, The North Face is launching three new models in February 2013: the Hyper-Track Guide, Ultra Guide and Double-Track Guide. We’re impressed with the thoughtful engineering of these models and expect them to slot in nicely with other stripped-down trail and road/trail models that are increasingly popular. Below is more info and full pics of each model.
Ultra Guide
Weighing in at 9.6 oz, this off-road shoe is designed to handle tough trails. The 8mm offset makes it easier to run with a mid-to-forefoot strike, and the shoe sports a range of features you’d expect to see on a serious trail tackler, including a scree collar on the tongue, abrasion-resistant, close-weave mesh, TPU rock protection in the forefoot and a sticky rubber outsole.

Hyper-Track Guide
This road-focused trainer is set to do double duty on the trails, and at 9.4 oz, it’s certainly light enough to offer strong performance in a variety of settings. The no-sew upper features bonded overlays for just enough structure and open mesh to keep you cool. High-abrasion rubber outsole areas provide the durability you expect on roads and craggy trails. The 8mm offset and dual-injection midsole construction give a comfortable platform for a range of footstrikes.

Double-Track Guide
The North Face describes this new model as a “cushioned, stability trail shoe that doesn’t feel like a brick.” The goal was to develop a lighter weight shoe offering a decent amount of pronation support and stability but also including a full list of trail-tough features. Coming in at 11.4 oz, the Double-Track Guide is not necessarily “light,” but is pretty slim considering all the features it packs in, including a dual-density midsole, forefoot rock plate, abrasion-resistant mesh and durable, trail-ready overlays from the heel to toe of the upper.
