Saucony Hurricane 15 Sneak Peek

Saucony Hurricane 15 Men's Running Shoe

Not a whole lot of functional changes are in store for the Hurricane 15, which is a good thing for the many runners who have discovered what a dynamic, runnable shoe the latest Hurricane is. The midsole and outsole – which we loved in the Hurricane 14 – carry over in this latest version, with a new upper that packs a lot of plush without adding weight.

Launch Date
February 2013

MSRP
$140.00

What to Watch For

  • New Upper: The new upper design features a more supportive heel counter, along with upgraded collar padding.
  • Same Platform: The Hurricane 15 carries over the midsole and outsole from the Hurricane 14.
  • Weight Unchanged: Published weights for the Hurricane 15 are unchanged from the Hurricane 14.

Really enjoying the Hurricane 15. Will essentially the only real changes be to the upper for this update? Any current idea when this one might be available there Online?

  • David Weeks

Oops, I meant to type Hurricane 14…

  • Alice

Thanks for your question, David. The Saucony Hurricane 15 carries over the midsole and outsole from the 14, so the only changes will be to the upper. The Hurricane 15 has a launch date of February 2013. -Alice

Is the 15 as good as the 12? I love that shoe so much and I’ve read a lot of bad reviews about the 13 and 14, but I’m really in need of a new pair right now. Can I safely buy the 15 in the size I wear now (6,5)?

  • Matt

Thanks for the question. The Hurricane 15 will not be available until February 2013, so if you need a shoe right now, you’d be looking at the Hurricane 14. We have heard overwhelmingly positive comments about the Hurricane 14, with the exception of a few runners who did not like that the platform changed from a traditional 12mm drop down to 8mm. We have not yet tried on the Hurricane 15 so cannot comment on how it compares to the 14, but note that the mid/outsole of the Hurricane 15 is unchanged from the Hurricane 14. What aspects of the Hurricane 12 did you like in particular?

Loving my 2 pairs of Hurricane 14′s. When is the 15 model expected in January at the RW? Thanks

  • Matt

The Hurricane 15 is a February 2013 release. We are expecting it in stock around the middle of February.

Hi Matt! Well, the cushioning is just amazing. I always use the 12′s when I go on a longer run, from say 8, 10 kilometers. Also they really support my ankles well. I also have the Omni 10, Guide 5 and Paramount 3. The Guide 5 is very lightweight, which I comfortabely run in. But for longer runs I prefer the Hurricane 12 over the Omni. By the way, will there be an update on the Paramount 3 that you know of? @Matt

  • Matt

Thanks for the comment. We haven’t heard of an update to the Paramount series, at least through Fall 2013.

I love the hurricane and I require a wide width(women’s). However, I am always disappointed that the wide doesn’t come in the “fun” colors. Will the wide width be offered in the pink?

  • Matt

Thanks for the question, Donita. The Women’s width color for the Hurricane 15 is Silver/Green/Pink. It’s a bit more fun than last year’s color, but not as flashy as the pink. You can see it on our site here: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpage.html?PCODE=SHR15W2

These were not the changes I was hoping for in the 15. I have worn Hurricanes for 12 years. I loved the 7s, 12s, and the 13 wasn’t too bad. The 14 did not work for me at all and I immediately got terrible shin splints! I scoured the internet and bought the few remaining pairs of 13s out there. I was thrilled they dropped the weight on the 14s (which it needed!) but I was hoping they would go back to their traditional heel drop in the 15 because that might be what caused the shin splints for me. Bummer. Can you recommend any other shoes more like the 13s??

  • Matt

Appreciate the comments, Alexis. We’d suggest looking at the Asics Gel Kayano 19 Brooks Adrenaline GTS 13, or Mizuno Wave Alchemy 12. Here’s more info on each:

I am disappointed not much will change with the Saucony Hurricane 15. I wore Hurricanes for years and loved the 12′s. I have had over 5 pairs of 12′s. HATED the 14′s and sufferred knee, ankle, and hip pain after running in them for a month. I have searched and searched and was only able to find one pair of 12′s in my size so I don’t know what I’ll wear next. I was really hoping Saucony would return to something closer to the 12.

  • Matt

Hi Stacy, take a look at the three shoes I mentioned above – the Asics Gel Kayano, Brooks Adrenaline GTS, and Mizuno Wave Alchemy. With our 90 Day No Sweat Returns policy, you can try them out risk-free and see if one will be a better substitute for your Hurricane 12s.
