Newton Energy Women's Running Shoe

Over the past few years, Newton has earned itself a strong following among runners who pursue running efficiency and injury prevention. With the Newton Energy, the company seeks to bring even more runners into the fold with a brand-new design that showcases its key design principles in a more accessible package.

This model features lower-profile forefoot lugs to ease the transition from more traditional footwear. It’s also priced lower than other Netwon models, making it more affordable to give the brand a try. We haven’t had an opportunity to run in the shoe yet, but we’re interested to see if this more streamlined model helps to get this already growing brand on even more runners’ feet.

What To Watch For

  • Action/Reaction Technology: Newton’s signature forefoot lugs have been re-engineered for this shoe. We expect them to provide a responsive underfoot feel and added protection for a forefoot landing.
  • Moderate Drop: At a modest 6mm, the heel to toe differential sits halfway between traditional running shoes and zero drop models to ease the transition into other shoes in the Newton line.
  • Forgiving Fit: A flexible and accommodating upper leaves plenty of room in the forefoot for toe splay and overall should be a comfortable place to set up shop.
  • Midweight Design Though not the lightest shoe out there, the Energy’s 9.0 oz (Men’s 9) and 7.0 oz (Women’s 7) weights certainly won’t weigh anyone down.

Have been waiting for this shoe for over a year….I believe that the lowered lugs in a five pod design will create a more stable landing zone and will actually be where newton will ultimately end up. Quit teasing me and let me preorder!

I love Newtons but as a true supinator, I can’t get many miles out of a pair. Perhaps the 5 pod design will be the answer to my prayers. I hope they fit….anxious to try!

Any info on the mizuno wave enigma 3 ? Also on the nike lunarglide+5? What does + mean?

  • Matt

There will not be an Enigma 3. Mizuno will carry forward only with the Wave Creation (http://www.runningwarehouse.com/searchresults.html?search=products&type=men&searchtext=wave+creation+14), which is in a similar category in terms of pronation support and cushioning. The big difference is that the Creation uses the Infinity Wave Plate versus the Fan Wave in the Enigma. The LunarGlide+ 5 is currently available in a range of colors (http://www.runningwarehouse.com/searchresults.html?search=products&type=men&searchtext=lunarglide+5). The + symbol indicates that it is compatible with the Nike + sensor pod that fits beneath the sockliner of the shoe.
