Mizuno Wave Inspire 9 Sneak Peek

August 17th, 2012

Mizuno Wave Inspire 9 Men's Running Shoe

Mizuno’s Wave Inspire series is one of the most popular daily trainers in the support category. The winning blend of cushioning, a smooth ride, and moderate stability is topped off with a great fitting upper, all coming together into a shoe with a considerable fan base.

With a sizeable decrease in weight expected for version 9, we think the Inspire series will continue to be a big win for Mizuno.

What to Watch For

  • Revised Upper: A new overlay pattern increases forefoot flexibility and improves overall fit. The Inspire 9 gets some bold, bright colors too.
  • Lower Weight: Both Men’s and Women’s models are slimmed down, with Running Warehouse measuring sample shoes at 10.1 oz (Men’s size 9) and 8.3 oz (Women’s size 8).
  • Carryover Platform: The mid/outsole from the Inspire 8 will continue in the updated version.

Will the Mizuno Inspire 9′s accommodate orthotics ?

  • Alice

Thank you for your question, Billy. The fit of the Mizuno Inspire 9 with an orthotic would really depend on the shape of your foot and the shape of your orthotic. We’d recommend trying the shoe on with your orthotic to see how it feels to you. Given the medium-to-low volume fit of the last few Inspire models, which we expect to continue in version 9, there are likely better choices for a comfortable orthotic fit, but it depends on the size of your orthotic.

Which color scheme will the narrow width come in?

  • Matt

The Women’s narrow will be available in the Blue/Silver/Red color shown on the blog. Keep an eye out for them in November!

  • Dave Weeks

Will the outsole stay about the same? Hope they do not change the cushioning as it seems just right now in both the feel and foregfoot!

  • Alice

Thank you for your question, Dave. The midsole and outsole will carry over from the previous version. -Alice

  • Paul

Horrible colour way. Won’t be buying as a result. Hope the spring/summer 2013 colours are better.

  • David Weeks

Great to see No price increase for a change!

Where did you hear that this color would be available for women? Orange/Silver Wave Inspire 9

I don’t see them listed on your site nor on the Mizuno site about this shoe. Thanks.

  • Matt

Thanks for the question, Tiffany. The Orange/Silver color appears in Mizuno’s 2013 catalog, and is listed as being available in March. It’s the one new Women’s color that will be added in the spring.

This looks very much like the wave inspires Osakas

  • Jim

Do these fit the same as the men’s wave inspire 8′s. i.e. are people ordering the same size and having the same fit?

  • Matt

Sizing is the same in the Inspire 8 and Inspire 9, though the latest version offers just a bit more room in the heel and a slightly shallower toebox.

  • Jim

Ok got the same size 11.5 and I agree that the toe box is shallower but not a huge change. I actually feel the heel cup is a bit more snug, but the overall length is definitely longer for the same size. I am debating going back to my normal dress shoe size of 11. I have both the nirvana 8 and inspire 8 and this seems to fit slightly longer.

  • Annabelle

I recently purchased a new pair of mizuno wave inspire 9. Ive had the 7 and 8 model, and was really happy. However these new ones are sooo much tighter, has the width changed. I cant really wear them as they hurt my feet. There was no option for width sizing when i ordered? Its really annoying, as now I have to buy another new pair of shoes :(

  • Matt

Sorry to hear they’re not working out for you, Annabelle. Besides the toe box being a bit lower and a slight decrease in forefoot width, we have not noticed any other fit differences between the Inspire 8 and Inspire 9. If you bought the shoes from us, feel free to return them for a bigger size or wider width. The shoe is available in widths in this color: http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageWRS-MIN9W1.html
