Mizuno Wave Inspire 10 Sneak Peek

July 17th, 2013

To pull a metaphor from one of the other sports Mizuno serves, the company hit it out of the ballpark on the Men’s and Women’s Wave Inspire 9. The shoe delivers an excellent fit, smooth ride, and responsive toe-off, not to mention an attractive assortment of colors for both genders.

So the brand has big shoes to fill (man, we’re on fire with the overused metaphors today) when launching the new Wave Inspire 10 this November. Big news is the switch to a new midsole compound (called U4iC) and an ounce of weight reduction on both the Men’s and Women’s models.

What to Watch For

  • New Midsole Cushioning: Mizuno’s U4iC midsole compound is 30% lighter than traditional foams but is still designed to provide the same cushioning and smooth ride that Inspire fans expect.
  • Lighter Weight: According to Mizuno, the Men’s Inspire 10 should clock in at just 9.0 oz, with Women’s at 7.6 oz. That’s amazingly lightweight for a daily trainer.
  • Redesigned Wave: The redesigned Fan Wave plate provides a touch more support than the current model.
  • More Platform Updates: A blown rubber outsole takes the place of heavier rubbers used previously, but Mizuno testing has found this new compound to be just as durable. In addition, a beveled edge on the lateral forefoot helps to provide a smoother transition and toe-off.
  • Fresh Upper: The seamless design of the upper features a geometric print inspired by the clean, simple works of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian.

Does Mizuno plan on releasing a shoe with midfoot stability? It looks like all their previous options had stability only in the rear portion of the foot.

  • Matt

Great question, Nick. The new Wave Paradox, coming in January, will be the most stable shoe in the Mizuno lineup, with a wave plate extending from heel to around the ball of the foot. This plate is designed in part to correct overpronation. This new model will take the place of the Wave Alchemy, but weigh in about an ounce lighter. The bulk of the pronation support still will be found in the rear of the shoe.

    What’s the drop?

  • Matt

We measured a sample pair at a 12mm drop, same as the current Inspire 9.

  • Stephen

    What is the stack height?

  • Matt

    We measured 28mm heel/16mm forefoot.

  • Stephen

Hmmm that’s 4mm taller. Have you gotten a hold of wave creation 15s yet? I wear tested those in March and I was wondering if the stack height increased on those as well

  • Matt

That’s actually 1mm lower than the current shoe, based on the way we measure. See our stack height for the Inspire 9 listed on http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageMRS-MIN9M1.html. We do not expect a significant change to the stack height or drop of the upcoming Wave Creation 15 compared to the current version.

Hard to tell solely based on these photos, but is the new midsole now a little thiner? Will the new Rider 17 be the next one to see soon? Thanks

  • Matt

The midsole should be just about as thick as the current model. We’ll have some pics of the Rider 17 next week, so stay tuned!

  • David Weeks

Like the current Inspire 9, but unfortunately the last 2 models of the Riders have felt way too stiff in the forefoot for me. Nothing wrong with ‘firm’ but the Rider has not been my choice, since the 13…

The Inspire looks awesome, let’s see how the changes have an effect on the shoe. I heard the Mens Ryder comes as well in pink. What about Brooks any sneak peak?

  • Matt

We’re planning to post some Brooks sneak peeks next month, so stay tuned!

  • Ed

That Mondrian print is fugly. Why does Mizuno ugly up good shoes on a regular basis?

  • Bobby

What colors will be offered in Widths? ie. 2E

  • Matt

The Men’s width color will be the White/Black/Red colorway.

  • Bobby

will there be widths available in the January 2014 release colors?

  • Matt

No – the White/Black/Red color that launches in December is the only Men’s width color that will be produced.

  • Holly

What colors will be available in women’s wide? Also any changes to the toe box room?

  • Matt

Thanks for the question. The Women’s White/Black/Aqua color is the only one that will be available in widths.
