Mizuno Wave Evo Ferus Sneak Peek

February 7th, 2013

Mizuno Wave Evo Ferus Men's Lime/Anthracite/Surf

Since the release of the collection earlier this year, we’ve seen Mizuno’s Evo line gain a fair share of traction among runners who want a low profile, zero drop ride. For Fall 2013, Mizuno will expand their Evo offerings to include the Wave Evo Ferus, an off-road counterpart to their two existing models. The Ferus (Latin for fierce) is derived from the Evo Levitas, so expect an underfoot feel similar to the more minimal Evo shoe.

What to Watch For

  • Trail-Ready Outsole: Mizuno’s Active-X outsole features X shaped lugs for multidirectional traction on various terrain (see them in the last picture, below).
  • Seamless Upper: Printed overlays minimize stitching while providing lateral support.
  • Midfoot Running Traits: The Ferus features all of the characteristics of the Evo line: a zero drop platform with midfoot Wave technology, low toe spring, and a wide forefoot for toe splay.
  • Performance Weight: Mizuno lists weights of 8.0 oz for a Men’s size 9 and 6.9 oz in a Women’s size 8.

Isn’t the Levitas around 6oz? Why did this one gain weight?

  • Matt

We’d attribute the weight gain to thicker materials used in the upper and a more durable rubber used on the outsole of the shoe. It still slots in well with similar zero drop designs like the Inov-8 Trailroc 235 and Saucony Kinvara TR.
