Brooks Ravenna 5 Sneak Peek

August 27th, 2013

The Brooks Ravenna 4 is a Runner’s World Best Buy, and we think that the upcoming 5th version of the shoe will have a very good shot at a repeat title, given that the all-new design gets updated technology without any bump in MSRP.

What to Watch For

  • BioMoGo DNA: The midsole of the Ravenna 5 uses an integrated BioMoGo DNA foam/cushioning blend, compared to previous models with separate DNA inserts in the BioMoGo foam. The difference? More consistent cushioning throughout the platform.
  • Revised Support: Though the Ravenna 5 falls in the same support category as its predecessors, the medial post and thermoplastic shank have been updated to integrate better with the rest of the midsole for an even smoother run experience.
  • On a Diet: Brooks lists weights for the Ravenna 5 as 10.3 oz for a Men’s size 9 and 8.5 oz for a Women’s size 7.
  • Adjustable Saddle: The V-shaped strap spanning from the midsole to the laces provides a secure wrap for the midfoot and heel.

Any idea about the cushioning of the 5 yet?

  • Nico

    Still 10mm offset?

  • Matt

We expect so but did not get a chance to measure the sample when it came through our offices.

  • Matt

We have not yet received a try-on sample in a size our testers could wear. We haven’t noticed much difference in the feel of other Brooks models when they transition from DNA inserts to a blended BioMoGo DNA midsole, and we expect the soft, bouncy ride of the current model to remain intact.

  • Nik

Any word on if the Ravenna 5 will have a roomier toe box than the 3 or the 4? Will the forefoot cushioning remain similar to the past versions (3 and 4)?

  • Matt

Thanks for the questions. We expect the fit of the Ravenna 5 to be about the same as the current model, but we have not yet had a chance to try on a pair. The forefoot cushioning also should feel about the same, though as noted the shoe switches from DNA inserts to a blended BioMoGo DNA midsole. This change in other Brooks models has led to a slightly softer ride, but we’re not sure yet how the Ravenna 5 will feel underfoot.
