Asics Gel Excel33 3 Men's Shoe

It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Asics’ recently revamped Natural33 collection, with the Gel Excel33 2 being one of our top picks in running shoes this year. So you can bet we’re pretty excited for the third iteration of the Excel33, due in early 2014. All signs indicate that this shoe will continue to be a fast feeling and lightweight trainer capable of high mileage duty.

What to Watch For

  • FluidRide: The 3rd Excel33 utilizes a dual-layered midsole similar to that of the current Gel Lyte33 2 – which should result in a soft underfoot feel with a bouncy and responsive ride.
  • New Upper Design: A new engineered mesh design provides both structure and breathability in specific areas around the forefoot, while seamless overlays hold the midfoot and heel in place.
  • Weight Loss: We measured 8.9 oz for a Men’s size 9 and 7.1 oz for a Women’s size 8, about an ounce in weight savings for both genders compared to the previous version.

    Hopefully the fit and ride aren’t changed too much. The 1 & 2 were amazing shoes; the 2 really didn’t need any improvement. But I’m glad to see the updates they made. The dual-layer midsole, larger rear gel unit, reduced weight, and that they dropped the MSRP back to $120 – all good stuff.

    Is there any indication that ASICS re-introduced gel into the forefoot of the V3, as the model had in the first version?

  • Taro

    @Michael

    The information we have indicates that the Excel33 3 will have Gel cushioning in the heel only.

    I have just got my pair, a replacement for the 33-2 after they fell to pieces after 2 months, a shame because I loved them! the 33-3 does feel different, Iam a little disappointed. not as responsive as the previous model, the large toe box does not suit me as I have narrow feet, but if you have wide feet these are perfect for you, they are also really light, which i do like. I’m currently hoping they will improve with a little wear, not a disaster but disappointing compared to the previous model.
