Freak. Out. Patagonia is here at Running Warehouse, and I don’t think anyone could be more excited than we are. We all held our breath in anticipation when we heard that we would be carrying running apparel from Patagonia beginning January 2016. You see, Patagonia is a brand built on a reputation for high quality, and they boast a following that is paralleled by few brands. And maybe part of that comes from their mission statement: “Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.” Boom. We’re on board with that.
A history of passion
Patagonia’s founder, Yvon Chouinard, began climbing in 1953 as a 14-year-old. And no, he didn’t start his company as a teenager who loved to climb, but as his passion grew, he began making and selling tools for climbers, which eventually spiraled into clothes for climbing… which then, in time, became making tools and clothes for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, paddling, and last (but certainly not least), trail running. But it wasn’t all just Yvon. Of course it required a growing band of other outdoor enthusiasts with a similar passion. As Patagonia states on their own website, “The approach we take towards product design demonstrates a bias for simplicity and utility.” But, of course! Lose the frills, get down to what works well based on experience. When passionate people make gear for the activity that they are passionate about, you know it’s going to resonate with like-minded people.
Need another reason to love Patagonia? They are all about environmental efforts and belong to groups around the world helping to reverse the steep decline in the overall health of our planet. From helping to reduce pollution generated from lighting stores to dyeing shirts, to donating at least 1% of sales to hundreds of grassroots environmental groups, it’s nice to know that the company behind your new favorite running shorts cares about the environment, am I right?
Here are a few of our staff’s favorite pieces that we are now carrying, but be sure to check out the full Spring 2016 collection.
The men’s running apparel line from Patagnoia is filled with vibrant colors and sharp styles – looks that stand out, but in a good way. The Houdini Pullover, for example, is lightweight and sleek, perfect for combating light rain and wind, with a DWR coating to resist the elements. The bold colors look great paired with running bottoms or to be worn casually around town. Why is it called Houdini, though? Because it’s packable and disappears easily into itself via the zippered pocket for easy carrying if the weather gets better along your run. The Strider Pro Short with a 5″ inseam comes in a few vibrant colorways, and this blue pair feels and looks fast. Not only that, it comes built with 5 pockets, so it’s perfect for a long run when you’ll need to stow some extra nutrition for your journey. If you’re looking for a longer length, the Nine Trails Short is a great option, with two hand pockets and a rear zippered pocket. The all-over graphic pattern is stylish and yet subtle. This style of short also comes in a version without a brief liner, if that’s what you prefer.
On warm weather days, the Fore Runner Tank is what you need to hit the trails. This ultra lightweight racerback tank has targeted mesh paneling on the upper back and below the arms for increased ventilation where you need it most. And if running skirts are your jam, the Nine Trails Skirt is bound to be a new favorite. I mean, look at that fun graphic print? It’s eye-catching and yet easy to work into your running outfit. The inner stretchy short provides modesty, the scalloped hem allows your legs a high level of freedom of movement, and with a zippered back pocket, you’ll have secure storage for small items. The Strider Pro Shorts with a 3″ inseam are already getting rave reviews, so much so that we already wrote a blog all about them.
Patagonia Running Hats
These Patagonia hats are probably going to fly off the shelves, because, I mean, look at these fun colors and patterns! The Duckbill Trucker Hat re-imagines the classic trucker hat with a lightweight, breathable design that is running friendly and perfect for your next trail or road run. An internal sweatband keeps sweat off your forehead and away from your eyes, while the adjustable back clip fits securely to avoid bounce or falling, regardless of the ruggedness or distance of your run. The Duckbill Cap is a more classic hat style with a lightweight, flexible construction that can bend to fit into most running shorts or jacket pockets. The back mesh design offers sufficient breathability while the adjustable back clip secures the hat to avoid bounce or falling off on your most technical trail runs.
