Launching this winter, the Saucony Liberty ISO is a new shoe within the performance line that incorporates many aspects of the responsive Freedom ISO with a few added features to create light stability. The shoe’s resilient underfoot experience paired with its lighter-weight design make it a great option for both daily training and up-tempo runs. In the currently under-populated niche of minimum support, performance shoes, the Liberty is likely to stand out immediately.
In order to provide runners with a little extra support, the Liberty features a medial TPU guidance frame that cups the inside of the midsole to limit lateral motion. Combined with a built-up rubber outsole along the medial side, the shoe design helps decrease the excessive wear that is commonly seen with overpronators. The remainder of the outsole is made of the same grippy and durable triflex crystal rubber used on the Freedom.
The full-length EVERUN midsole, which delivers uncompromising cushioning throughout the run, further supports the longevity of the shoe. While EVERUN is becoming increasingly common in Saucony shoes, the Freedom is the only shoe currently on the market that features a full-length EVERUN midsole. As such, the introduction of the Liberty and several other Saucony models with full-length EVERUN marks a larger shift towards this new, responsive feel. Both the Liberty and the Freedom also incorporate an EVERUN topsole that is laid over the midsole for additional cushioning as well as impact dispersion.
To further increase upper stability within the Liberty, designers included several tape overlays along the sides as well as a more structured support frame at the heel. The overlays are placed over the same stripped-down ISOFIT upper used for the Freedom, which creates a snug foot wrap with an airy, performance feel, while the streamlined support frame generates a snug heel lock without a drastic increase in weight. In fact, even with the added support features, the Liberty is only 0.7 ounces heavier than the Freedom.
