Built on the legacy created by the eight previous models, the Saucony Kinvara 9 is engineered to provide the flexible cushioning that runners have come to expect from the line with even less weight and an improved fit. In order to shed weight, the midsole of the Kinvara 9 is constructed with Saucony’s new EVA+ cushioning compound, which is lighter than the SSL EVA foam used in the previous version. Additionally, like the Kinvara 8, the 9 includes a full-length EVERUN topsole that is designed to both disperse impact forces and increase energy return on each and every stride.
To generate a versatile underfoot feel, designers included flex grooves on the underside of the shoe that extend into the midsole, which should allow the shoe to bend with the contours of the ground. The outsole rubber has also been retooled and cut back in specific areas to keep weight at a minimum while maintaining the shoe’s longevity.
The Kinvara 9 incorporates a slightly more substantial upper design than the 8 for a snug-yet-comfortable fit while continuing to provide a well-ventilated mesh forefoot. A more striking update with the 9 is the incorporation of a woven external heel support, which provides added upper stability, comfort, and a hit of speed-oriented style. As a cumulative result of these changes, the 9 is 0.2 ounces lighter than its predecessor.
