Over the past few years, Newton has earned itself a strong following among runners who pursue running efficiency and injury prevention. With the Newton Energy, the company seeks to bring even more runners into the fold with a brand-new design that showcases its key design principles in a more accessible package.
This model features lower-profile forefoot lugs to ease the transition from more traditional footwear. It’s also priced lower than other Netwon models, making it more affordable to give the brand a try. We haven’t had an opportunity to run in the shoe yet, but we’re interested to see if this more streamlined model helps to get this already growing brand on even more runners’ feet.
What To Watch For
- Action/Reaction Technology: Newton’s signature forefoot lugs have been re-engineered for this shoe. We expect them to provide a responsive underfoot feel and added protection for a forefoot landing.
- Moderate Drop: At a modest 6mm, the heel to toe differential sits halfway between traditional running shoes and zero drop models to ease the transition into other shoes in the Newton line.
- Forgiving Fit: A flexible and accommodating upper leaves plenty of room in the forefoot for toe splay and overall should be a comfortable place to set up shop.
- Midweight Design Though not the lightest shoe out there, the Energy’s 9.0 oz (Men’s 9) and 7.0 oz (Women’s 7) weights certainly won’t weigh anyone down.
