Released in 2015 as an update to the New Balance 980, the Boracay was built to provide high cushioning in a low heel-to-toe offset design. While the second version of the shoe was not released to the US market, version 3 has been brought back and offers some nice updates to enhance fit and cushioning while still providing an ultra smooth ride.
The Boracay v3 offers a higher level of cushioning with an additional 3mm of stack height. This added height comes with added weight, but the shoe is still on the light side. A Fresh Foam midsole and blown rubber outsole continue to be used, but with modified geometry, we expect the shoe to offer a softer ride. The outsole pattern has also been modified. Small gaps in the forefoot rubber will increase flexibility.
The Boracay v3 also receives a nice upper upgrade that further gives the shoe a revamped look. A seamless material with a hexagonal print is used to provide lightweight protection while also reducing irritation. Paired with an open mesh material in the heel, the shoe should provide sufficient breathability.
