After the well-reviewed transition to a Fresh Foam midsole with the 1080 v6, the New Balance 1080 v7 incorporated only a few small updates to tweak the performance of the model. Because of the continued success of that design, the upcoming New Balance 1080 v8 maintains many of the same features with several key modifications that are designed to further improve the ride and feel.
The midsole of the 1080 v8 should continue to provide the highly cushioned, neutral ride offered by previous versions with the primary difference between the 1080 v8 and its predecessor being a switch from convex to concave geometric patterning on the outside of the midsole. This change should provide a slightly softer landing and a smoother ride. Designers also added laser engravings on the outside of the midsole at the heel to generate an even softer landing. Additionally, minor updates to the outsole design should improve traction and durability.
While the upper remains largely the same as the previous edition, there are several small changes. Designers redesigned the engineered mesh with the goal of improving comfort and breathability, and a molded TPU heel clip was added.
Although New Balance is updating their Fresh Foam midsoles to be slightly softer and lighter this coming season, the updates to the 1080 v8 have resulted in a 0.5 ounce increase in the weight of the men’s sample when compared with the production model of the 1080 v7 while the women’s sample is 0.9 ounces heavier.
