The Wave Catalyst made its debut in 2016 as Mizuno’s first performance support shoe since the Elixir. While the Catalyst proved to be quite different from the Elixir, it’s mixture of lightweight support, firm cushioning, and a fantastic fit made it a great lightweight training option for the mild overpronator. Now with version 2 on it’s way, runners can look forward to only small changes in cushioning and fit.
The original Catalyst provided a fairly firm ride and while we don’t expect this to change dramatically, the use of a new U4ic X strobel lasting board should offer a slightly softer step in feel. The addition of a top midsole with the new u4ic compound is used to provide increased responsiveness and durability and the continued use of a Fan wave design should provide the same level of structural guidance.
To further improve comfort, the Wave Catalyst 2 utilizes a tweaked DynamotionFit for a more secure and flexible fit. Paired with a new a forefoot mesh, this shoe will offer slightly more depth in the toe box with even better breathability.
