For minimal running shoes, less is often more. In the trail glove series, Merrell balances a minimal shoe design with enough protection for trail running across various surfaces. With the Trail Glove 4, Merrell continues making improvements that won’t compromise the shoes barefoot design.
One welcoming improvement is the weight reduction from 6.7 ounces to 4 ounces, which is in part thanks to the removal of synthetic leather overlays in favor of TPU overlays. The other factor is an outsole switch from Vibram TC1 to a Vibram TC5+ design. With 3mm lugs and sticky rubber, the new TC5+ outsole will continue to give the Trail Glove optimal traction across a variety of trail surfaces.
To improve fit, a new lacing system hugs the foot to give you a snug, sock-like fit. Layered between the outsole and midsole is a Trail Protect Plate for sufficient protection from sharp rocks and debris along the trail.
