The purpose of the La Sportiva VK is in the name: top-tier performance in vertical kilometer (VK) races. Designers worked closely with world record holder, Urban Zemmer to create a shoe that will provide excellent grip for speeding up the steepest slopes and a unique, lightweight upper to hold your foot tightly without traditional laces.
*Update: The La Sportiva VK was initially cited as being a Men’s specific model, but it will now be produced as a unisex model.
A compressed, molded MEMlex midsole should provide enough cushioning for varied terrain, with a springy toe-off to propel your feet upwards. The forefoot receives additional protection via a thin EVA rock-guard for times when the trail gets particularly hairy.
Lightweight rubber on the forefoot should provide sticky grip to prevent your feet from slipping on loose rocks or dirt, and additional rubber at the heel enhances the underfoot traction while improving the shoe’s overall durability.
The upper is constructed using a seamless knit fabric with differentiated stretch zones for a sock-like fit that expands and contracts with the foot as you run. Rather than traditional laces, the upper features an integrated, asymmetric Ghost-Stream Lace system that adapts to each individual foot shape for a snug hold across the arch and around the heel. An added microfiber rear spoiler makes it easier to pull on and remove, and a TPU toe cap adds protection from rocks and roots.
