If there is one new trail shoe to get excited about for 2015, it’s the Hoka One One Speedgoat. Built to handle tough conditions like those found in the Speedgoat 50K, this shoe has an incredible weight to cushioning ratio. As one of Hoka’s ultrasized shoes, the Speedgoat packs plenty of foam under foot for a great ride on pounding descents. While the shoe is thick and the ride is forgiving, this is not a squishy soft shoe. The use of an injected molded EVA midsole delivers a balanced underfoot feel, while the thick midsole compresses with heavy impact forces. The result is a fast-feeling, responsive shoe on climbs and flats, but a compliant “hopefully leg-saving” ride on descents.
The outsole is composed of 4mm Vibram rubber lugs designed to deliver superb traction over loose and rocky terrain. The upper is designed to keep out trail debris and has a rubber toecap for added toe protection.
