Lightweight comfort in a sleek performance package, the HOKA Hupana has become known as a versatile training option with a stylish look. Whether you’re picking up the pace on tempo day or simply getting in the daily miles, the Hupana offers reliable cushioning in a more stripped down design than your standard HOKA shoe. We’ve already seen two versions of the Hupana hit the market and with only minor tweaks to the upper, the shoes were nearly identical. Now for Fall 2018, HOKA will release two new additions to the Hupana family with the Hupana Wool and the Hupana Knit Jacquard. Both shoes offer a similar tooling to previous versions while new upper materials should create two distinct on-foot experiences.
The original Hupana was known for its cushioned yet responsive R-MAT midsole/outsole and at first look the Hupana Wool and Knit Jacquard seem to have an identical design. But HOKA has made a small change in compounds and upgraded the shoes to contain the new R-BOUND material. R-BOUND is characteristically very comparable to R-MAT but weighs in slightly lighter. Other than reduced weight, the shoe should feel very similar on foot and offer the same level of durability.
While there are small tweaks to the midsole compound, the upper is going to offer the biggest update between both of the new versions of the Hupana. Below we lay out the key differences between the two.
Between the two new styles, the Knit Jaquard version should be the more performance oriented design. The adaptive material offers support and flex where you need it while also maintaining excellent breathability. The fit has also been updated over its predecessor and a new lacing system should further increase midfoot lockdown.
The Hupana will also come in a wool fleece version and is built to deliver sheer comfort. The soft material hugs your foot and helps create a sock-like feel while still maintaining some breathability. While style and comfort will be a big plus of the Hupana Wool, the shoe should still have no problems knocking out runs of various speeds.
