The Hoka One One Challenger ATR is one of the few road/trail shoes that actually does great on both road and trail. The current version has two short comings: 1. The fit could be more secure in the midfoot. 2. Outsole durability could be improved. The Challenger ATR 3 will address the first issue and ignore the second one.
Built with an all new upper and on a new last (shape), the Challenger ATR 3 is another Hoka shoe joining the fit revolution. It should fit very similar to the Clifton 3, from which it is based (and people are loving the Clifton 3 fit). The result should be a more secure midfoot, while still providing plenty of wiggle room around the toes.
The midsole gets a new look, but should function the same. The outsole remains unchanged. As a result, it will continue to provide great grip on rocky and loose terrain, but durability can be an issue if you run mostly on hard surfaces.
