When the Endorphin Racer was released in 2015, it was one of the lightest racing flats on the market. Weighing in at 3.5 oz, the shoe was built to be as light and minimal as possible. As such, it was great for 5k road races. But sometimes, when racing flats get too light and stripped down, they can end up sacrificing key elements that are critical for running fast. The Endorphin Racer 2 hopes to improve upon the original by maintaining an ultra lightweight upper design while improving cushioning, responsiveness, traction, and durability.
In order to provide a more cushioned experience, the Endorphin Racer 2 gets about 2mm of additional stack height at the cost of an increase in weight. While the additional cushioning should provide a more versatile feel, the shoe will still be a great go-fast option on race day. The shoe continues to use SSL EVA in the heel but now utilizes Everun cushioning in the forefoot to create a more snappy and responsive ride. To help increase traction and durability, Saucony switched to a full length PWRTRAC outsole rather then utilzing strategically placed XT-LITE. This change should improve grip on wet roads and allow racers to run confidently as they pick up the pace.
To prevent further weight increases, the Endorphin Racer 2 contains the same ultra thin upper seen on the new Endorphin Spike. The breathable materials mixed with seamless overlays should offer a snug an irritant free fit.
