Other than changing colors, Brooks has not updated or introduced a new racing flat since February 2011. That will all change this June with the Hyperion.
The Hyperion will replace the T7 Racer and will be significantly different. The midsole will be made of Brooks’ BioMoGo DNA material, which is found throughout the Brooks line-up. This should result in greater durability and improved responsiveness over the T7. The Hyperion will have a 10mm offset (T7 is 12mm), which is the same offset of the much beloved Brooks Green Silence. And the shape of the Hyperion appears to be just a bit less curved and broader than the T7, which should increase inherent stability.
The upper of the Hyperion is revolutionary. It is made of a stretch-woven material, which is more often found in technical running apparel. It is built in a nearly seamless fashion and is perforated in the forefoot to increase breathability.
The forefoot outsole uses what Brooks calls Propulsion Pods, which are shaped to improve energy return at toe-off.
At nearly the same weight of the T7, the upgraded midsole material, shoe shape, and outsole design should make the Hyperion a more versatile racing flat than the T7.
Note: The Women’s Hyperion will be available in both colors pictured, whereas the Men’s will only be available in the Black/White/Nightlife color.
