For the upcoming Brooks Caldera 2, designers decided to preserve the underfoot feel and protection of the original model by leaving the midsole and outsole unchanged. Instead, they focused on improving the fit and feel of the upper to keep your feet comfortable for those long trail runs.
As was the case with the first version, the Caldera 2 has a thick midsole that provides both a responsive ride and ample protection against rocks, roots, and other hazards. The sticky rubber outsole has the same design as the original model with targeted traction for climbing and descending.
The upper is redesigned with an Ariaprene™ mesh and a Cordura AFT top cloth that should increase ventilation, drainage, and abrasion protection. Compared to the upper on the original Caldera, this upper should also provide a slightly more snug fit in the toe-box and have increased comfort due to the inner fabric. The external 3D rubber print increases the longevity of the upper while enhancing the stretch and structure of the fit. As with the previous version, the integrated Gaiter Tab at the heel can secure a gaiter loop, and the lace garage on the tongue can stow tied laces.
Due to the minimal nature of the updates, the men’s Caldera 2 has the same weight as its predecessor while the women’s model weighs 0.2 ounces less.
