One of the most popular models in ASICS’ performance lineup, the DS Trainer is a go-to shoe for runners who want mild stability and a lightweight, responsive ride. With that success in mind, the designers of the new ASICS Gel DS Trainer 23 preserved the midsole and outsole tooling of the previous edition, but altered the upper to improve the fit and breathability.

The responsive and resilient Flytefoam midsole of the DS Trainer 22 is carried over with an identical Duomax support system to generate stability for less severe overpronation. Like the unchanged midsole, the DuoSole outsole design is also retained, giving the shoe reliable grip for uptempo running.

What’s new with the DS Trainer 23? The answer is the upper. Designers incorporated their new Adapt Mesh material to create what should be a more breathable and comfortable wrap. They also cut back on the overlay designs for that same reason.

Because of the alterations to the upper design, the DS Trainer 23 is 0.4 ounces heavier than the previous edition.
