Lightweight, highly cushioned running shoes have taken off in recent years, and most brands are jumping on board to add their own takes on the design. For the runner who wants that underfoot experience but prefers Altra’s natural foot shape and zero-drop designs, the upcoming Altra Duo is set to become a fast favorite. Releasing in early 2018, the Duo cuts ounces while ramping up the cushioning for a softened ride that facilitates a runner’s natural stride for miles upon miles.

To create extensive underfoot cushioning while keeping weight to a minimum, Altra’s designers took advantage of their new Max-LT midsole compound. The ride is then smoothed out using Inner Flex, a technology that incorporates flex grooves in the midsole to allow for a natural heel-to-toe transition.

The outsole rubber is centralized in high-wear areas to ensure that the shoe remains durable without adding unnecessary weight. This shoe also incorporates a decoupled outsole design to increase underfoot flexibility.

To create high-level ventilation and further minimize weight, the upper features an airy mesh over the forefoot. TPU overlays and an internal heel counter offer additional structure and a more supportive wrap that holds the foot within the shoe.
