Another great update from Saucony this summer is the new Grid Type A4.  Man, this is a nice update.  Saucony’s 6.4 oz neutral racing flat with a great mesh upper that has a fast look with a cool flame treatment in the heel while maintaining the Saucony DNA.  Add a SSL EVA midsole and a XT-Lite Outsole (very similar to the Asics Duosole) for grip and durability and you have yourself a flat that should speak directly to those who would likely be seen sporting a “O2DEBT” personalized plate on their ride.  This should be a great flat for those looking at a minimal neutral racer suitable for 5k – 10k distances.

The Shay XC 2 Flat/Spike receives an upper only update (the plate, outsole and midsole remain untouched) with the main addition being a window where you place a colored mylar piece to personalize the shoe to your liking.  We haven’t seen this since Nike tried it a few years back with Cheerleading shoes, but given the number of kids who race XC for their team and seek some form of personalization to their team footwear, this seems a perfect application for this concept. It’s a good thing that Saucony did not change the midsole as this is one of the most surpisngly comfortable footbeds ever available in a cross country specific racing shoe. The new Shay XC 2 will be available in black/silver for men and women,  blue/citron for men and plum/citron for women.
